Miranda Meyer Interior (MMI) Projects' rapid rise to become one of the top interior design firms operating in Nigeria has been nothing short of astonishing. In a few years the firm has landed 18 projects in the West African country.

"As an interior designer you have to have vision to be successful, and in my vision I see a new Nigeria rising through the dirt and chaos," says Miranda Meyer, managing director and founder of the company. "I think if I get to choose between a project in Dubai or Lagos, Lagos will win my vote without thinking twice about the offer."

Over a decade ago, Meyer turned her dream into a reality and MMI was born. After a few highly successful projects in South Africa, MMI turned its radar to the rest of the Africa. With developments in Nigeria, Angola, Mozambique, São Tomé and South Africa, it is now firmly established as a major player on the continent. The company's head office is in Cape Town, South Africa and it recently opened an office in Lagos, Nigeria.

MMI has positioned itself as the industry leader in the fields of interior design, manufacturing and interior contracting. The company mainly focuses on residential, corporate and mixed-use developments such as hotels, apartments and offices.

Its first project in Nigeria was to design the offices of Aluko & Oyebode, one of the largest law firms in Lagos. The client wanted a sophisticated look for their new offices. MMI did space planning on two of the five floors which included executive offices, open plan offices, meeting space, a library, gym and coffee shop. An African feel was created using warm African colours. Earthy textures were combined with African art to reinforce this theme.

Another one of the company's premium projects in Nigeria is the Harrow Park Golf Estate in the capital Abuja. Each room has a different theme or mood and gave the company the opportunity to be as creative as possible.

MMI has done a number of other projects in Nigeria, including the Asokoro lifestyle building in Abuja, the G Tower apartments in Lagos and the Berkshire 8 townhouses in Lagos, amongst others. An exciting new development the company is working on is the Wilmot Plaza, a proposed mixed-use development in Victoria Island, Lagos. The development will include a hospital, hotel, offices, apartments, a lifestyle centre, housing, shopping, conference centre, spa and restaurant facilities.

MMI has just received a five star rating on the Aluko & Oyebode offices, making them one of the best interior designers in Africa, and a four star rating for Harrow Park Golf Estate at the African Commercial Property Awards 2009 in association with CNBC. They have furthermore been invited to partake as an international nominee, representing Africa with the Aluko & Oyebode project, at the US Grand Hotel, San Diego on 12 November. Competing against interior designers from Europe, Asia and America for the world’s best interior designer at the International Property Awards 2009.

"We have excellent understanding of how to run projects in Nigeria built up through combined experience over six years. We therefore feel that we are able to give our clients sound advice and products at a commercially viable cost," says Meyer.

"We offer our clients the best products at the best prices drawn from an international suppliers list built up through extensive travels and meetings to find that special product, supplied by companies with similar goals as ours: Putting the client first!"
