Miranda Meyer Interior (MMI) Projects' rapid rise to become one of the top interior design firms operating in Nigeria has been nothing short of astonishing. In a few years the firm has landed 18 projects in the West African country. One of MMI’s most prominent projects in Nigeria is the Harrow Park Golf Club.

Client: Horizon Capital Investments (HCI)
After MMI successfully designed the interior of HCI' office, the company contracted MMI for its Harrow Park development. www.hci-group.com

Project: Harrow Park is a golf development situated in Nigeria's capital, Abuja. In phase one of the project, MMI was asked to design the reception area, restaurant, whiskey & wine bar, lounge and cigar bar of the golf club.

Concept: Each area would have its own theme and identity, with a bohemian undertone enhanced with a wealth of luxury. The themed lounges would have a palette of mixed jewel colours and prints. These colours, combined with mink, brown and grey would lend the jewel colours an intense glow. Classic pieces would evoke the elegance of a bygone era, while combining it with a thoroughly modern edge.

Reasoning behind the design: To satisfy today's modern traveller, a golf centre needs to be more than just a place to play golf. It has to be comfortable and chic enough to attract the increasingly wealthy and knowledgeable cosmopolitan jetsetter who travels both for leisure and for business. A true cosmopolitan's entertainment area needs to be trendy and stylish while maintaining its own identity.

Design:

The design has been created specifically to appeal to the five human senses. MMI achieved this by combining textures, colours, light and a variety of surfaces. Even though each room has an entirely different look and feel they are all tied together by the same themes: bling, crystals and frosting. The use of light throughout the design is what reinforces this theme.

Reception: The reception area is an entrance into an imaginary dream world of evening fun and entertainment. This space is separated from the rest of the rooms, using a variety of materials, portioning, translucent layers and structured plastic ornamentation.

The theme for the reception area is Glitz & Glamour. The design team wanted the visitor to know that he has arrived somewhere special. The idea was to create an area where the visitor can imagine arriving at the gates of heaven. Imagine walking on the clouds into a dream evening of the best cuisine and social interaction you have ever had.

The focal point in this entrance area is the huge volume of different sized glass balls falling from the centre of the ceiling. Imagine a child blowing soap bubbles of different sizes into the air. White was the theme colour of the design and the focus on the bling factor! Glass, stainless steel and Swarovski crystals were main design elements. The floor in the reception is Quartz Carpet – seamless stone flooring.

Restaurant: The restaurant was divided into two levels with a combination of double volume ceilings as well as a mezzanine level that leads into an outdoor patio area.

To maximise the use of the deep, narrow floor plan and to accommodate the complex routes travelled by food, wine and patrons, we incorporated a central seating arrangement emphasised by grand high back banquet seating to the walls below the mezzanine level. The double volume above this area created the perfect opportunity to apply dramatically large chandeliers, effectively breaking the height and making the area seem less imposing. As main focal point in this very smart, luxury restaurant we used a limited edition grand piano by Elton John.

Lounge: For the lounge, MMI used a Moroccan theme. Luxurious fabrics in purple and pinks was used to emphasize the joy and spice of life. Upholstered seating and loose upholstered items as well as curtained private areas makes the atmosphere more intimate. The rich timber used in the dividing panels and floor tiles give the space a warm feel with the help of ambient lighting in the form of Moroccan chandeliers and wall lighting.
