Investors have the opportunity to invest in Nigeria's agriculture sector by establishing an oil palm processing facility in Kwara State.
Investment Opportunity
Oil palms are grown for their clusters of fruit which can weigh up to 50 kg. Upon harvest, the drupe, pericarp and seeds are used for the production of soap and edible vegetable oil. Different grades of oil quality are obtained from the pericarp and the kernel, with the pericarp oil used mainly for cooking oil, and the kernel oil used in processed foods.
The Kwara State Government is looking for local and foreign investors to invest in oil palm processing factories in the three local government areas of Ireodun, Ekiti and Oke-Ero.
The project will involve the planning, construction, installation and operation of the facilities.
Local communities will have to actively participate in the project by planting and supplying the raw palm nuts. They will also partake in the operation of the facility.
Reasons to Invest in Kwara State
Availability of affordable labour: Kwara State has an abundant supply of affordable skilled and unskilled labour.
Incentives: The Kwara State Government is willing to extend a number of incentives to serious investors. These include the provision of land and infrastructure, tax holidays and assistance with obtaining financing.
Market: Nigeria, with its population of close to 150 million provides a massive market for oil palm related products. The country enjoys favourable trade arrangements with the ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) region and opportunities for export to Europe and the United States also exist.
Stable political climate: Since its return to civilian rule in 1999 Nigeria has made significant gains in establishing democracy. Besides a few localised problems in the Niger Delta area, the country is safe and secure to do business.
