Description

The Sokoto State Government is offering investors the opportunity to invest in the small and medium scale mining and processing of phosphate rock.

Phosphate rock rich in the chemical ingredient P2 05 is found in commercial deposits in Dukamaje, Dange, Gilbadi, Wurno, Kindiru, Dillingu and Gada.

Phosphate rock is an essential raw material for the manufacturing of phosphate fertilisers. It is also used in the preparation of food and animal feed, as well as for the manufacturing of certain industrial phosphorous-based chemicals and detergents.

Chemical composition

The phosphate rock found in Sokoto State has the following chemical composition:

P2 05 = 36.245%
CaO = 52.30%
F = 3.84%
SiO2 = 3.44%
AL2 O3 = 1.50%
Fe2 O3 = 1.50%
H20 = 0.75%

Current mining operations

Presently there are three companies in Sokoto State involved in the processing of phosphate rock. These processed materials are being supplied to the Kaduna Federal Super Newspaper Company.

Exploration

Even though past exploration activities have identified the current known deposits of phosphate rock, many undiscovered deposits are believed to occur in Sokoto State.
