Solar power is gaining enormous momentum in Nigeria as an alternative source of electricity. Renewable energy provides an effective way of side-stepping the country's power supply problems.

One company that is taking the renewable energy industry by storm is South Africa-based SETSOLAR, a company that specialises in the manufacture of photovoltaic solar modules, the distribution of solar-energy components and turnkey alternative-energy solutions.

SETSOLAR already has 20 years of experience in Southern Africa, making it the leader in its sector, and has committed its resources, and its 8MWp solar-module production facility, to creating a sustainable, healthier and a carbon-free environment.

Currently SETSOLAR focuses mainly on the manufacture of photovoltaic solar panels, but it has plans to diversify into the manufacturing of other renewable energy technologies such as solar cells, wind turbines and LED lights. Already a market leader in South Africa, it aims to expand beyond the country's borders into the SADC and West Africa regions.

The group is currently looking for distributors currently active in the renewable energy industry or companies that would like to become active in the renewable energy market across the greater Africa region to begin marketing its products to a wider audience.

What does SETSOLAR do?

SETSOLAR manufactures and distributes a range of products linked to renewable energy, including:

  • Solar modules
  • Inverters
  • LED Lights
  • Batteries
  • Charge controllers
  • Wind turbines
  • Mounting structures
  • Apollo MPPT controllers
  • It also provides a range of related services, including training; systems design; solar-module customisation; solar-component selection; installation and after sales service and repair.

The company is currently focusing on the manufacture of photovoltaic solar panels for the photovoltaic industry in areas such as:

  • Telecommunications
  • Water pumping
  • Game farms
  • Universal power supply applications
  • Street lights
  • Rural electrification of houses, schools and clinics.

Why SETSOLAR offers a unique solution

SETSOLAR was originally established as an importer of solar panels from overseas, however directors Peet and Mary Booysen identified the need for a local manufacturer to start producing custom-made solar panels in South Africa.

By manufacturing the panels themselves, SETSOLAR can not only offer a unique solution to its clients’ needs, it can also offer very competitive prices.

'Because of the exchange rate at the moment, our solar panels are already cheaper than those imported products from China,' says company director Mary Booysen. 'And because we’re local, we offer excellent delivery lead-times.'

That means that the company is able not only to provide an excellent after sales maintenance and repair service to customers, but is also able to manufacture panels to customer’s bespoke requirements.

'Most solar panels come with a standard aluminium frame around them, but we can customise the look and layout of a panel so that it fits in better with its surroundings,' says Mary.

    How can you get involved?

SETSOLAR is currently looking for distributors across Nigeria and the rest of Africa, to market and distribute its solar energy products.

With a bespoke solution for clients, combined with its ability to offer after sales care – qualities that most importers of solar panels are unable to offer – SETSOLAR offers customers a unique energy saving solution.
