The Kwara state government needs further private investment in a new ultra-modern diagnostic centre located in the state capital, Ilorin.

The centre, which is intended to be a regional referral facility, will centralise all procedures requiring laboratory tests, thereby improving the performance of health facilities in the state. It will also serve other states in the Federation, and aims to reduce frequent overseas travel by Nigerians seeking medical care.

It is estimated that the revenue potential of the centre could be as high as N10-million per month.

The Kwara government is inviting interested companies to inject further investment in the venture to make it even more effective.

Project status

The Kwara state government is currently in a partnership with US company MedeQuip Medical Services to develop the diagnostic project, expected to come on stream in 2010. MedeQuip is providing the concept, intellectual capacity, management and oversight for technology transfer. Staff will be supplied by MedeQuip for the first four years of the centre’s operation.

The centre will offer the following services:

• All special medical laboratory tests: liver, renal and heart function
• Hormonal tests
• Infertility tests
• Haematology tests
• Histopathology tests
• Ultra sound scan
• X-ray tests
• Blood banking services
• Referral centre for all states medical laboratories
