The Kwara State Government is looking to partner with investors for the construction of a truck terminal near the Ilorin International Airport.

Investment Opportunity

The state government has acquired 90 hectares of land for the facility. When completed it is estimated that the truck terminal will have parking space for 1 000 trucks. The facility will also feature a workshop, two fuel stations, a truck wash and a motel. It will also integrate a bus terminal for buses coming into Ilorin.

A large number of trucks and buses that travel between the north and south of Nigeria pass through Kwara State. The location is therefore well suited to capitalise on the 3 000 trucks that pass through the state every day. The terminal’s proximity to the new cargo facility at the Ilorin International Airport also provides an opportunity to service trucks carrying goods destined for air transport.

The state government, together with private investors, plan on establishing a special purpose vehicle which in turn will lease out different facilities at the truck terminal. This way any private company willing to invest will be able to earn a good return on investment.

Benefits of Investing in Kwara State

Labour: Kwara State is home to the well-respected University of Ilorin and construction of the new Kwara State University will soon be completed. Kwara State therefore has a large number of graduates that can be employed by companies investing in the state.

Market: Kwara State is close to Nigeria's capital Abuja and its commercial hub Lagos. The Ilorin International Airport has recently been renovated and a trip from Lagos or Abuja is a mere 50 minute journey via air.

Power supply: Due to the recent completion of the Ganmo sub-station, Ilorin currently enjoys very close to 24 hours a day of uninterrupted power supply. Many business owners are delighted by the fact that they have to make very little use of generators.
