Private media companies and investors have the opportunity to establish a commercial radio station in Kwara State, situated in central Nigeria.

Nigeria is Africa's largest media market. Despite suffering from years of political instability, corruption, and troublesome economic conditions, the country's media industry has managed to thrive. Virtually all parts of the country are reached by radio and TV services and they operate at a federal and regional level. There are many national and local newspapers which include well-respected dailies, popular tabloids and publications targeting specific ethnic groups. The lively private press is often not afraid to be critical of the government. The Nigerian film industry, known as Nollywood, has also become increasingly productive in recent years.

Investment opportunity

The Kwara State Government is looking for the private sector to establish a radio station for the effective broadcasting of information and the mobilisation of the people. Kwara State currently has only two radio stations – Radio Kwara and Okin FM Rado – presenting a huge gap for more stations. The project will involve the planning, installation and operation of the radio station.

Kwara State has around 3 million people. A large percentage of the population lives in the capital Ilorin although many also many also reside in smaller towns. The majority of people living in the countryside are engaged in agricultural activities.

As part of its determination to boost the economy of the state, the Kwara State Government has repeatedly stated its willingness to assist investors. These incentives include: easy access to land, loans, tax breaks, and provision essential infrastructure.
