Two piggery currently exist: the 100 000-capacity Oke-Aro Piggery Estate and the Gberigbe Piggery Estate in Ikorodu. The 250-unit estate has 68 private investors on site with 10 using the standardised facility.
Water and roads provision at the estate has reached an advanced stage and investors are invited to take advantage of this initiative.
Reasons to invest in Lagos State
Location: Lagos State is strategically located on the coast of Nigeria with a large seaport and international airport. It is well positioned for business with the entire West African region, as well as Europe and America.
Market: Nigeria, with a population of close to 150 million people, is a lucrative market for pork. The country also enjoys favourable trade relations with all ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) members.
Labour: Nigeria has an abundance of skilled and unskilled labour.
Political climate: Since the return to democracy in 1999 Nigeria's political climate has stabilised dramatically. Although the country still has a way to go there is a general consensus that civilian rule is here to stay.
Incentives: The Lagos State Government is offering a number of incentives to serious investors in the state. These include the provision of infrastructure and special tax holidays and deductions.
