Description

As part of its efforts to grow the economy of Sokoto State, situated in north-west Nigeria, the state government is looking to upgrade the Sultan Saddik Abubakar Airport.

The airport is the main entry point into Sokoto State for business people and foreign tourists. Arik Air operates five flights a week to Sokoto and Virgin Nigeria has four flights a week. This is in addition to other smaller aircrafts making use of the airport. As economic activity increases the number of flights to and from Sokoto is set to soar.

The following is needed at the airport and investors can negotiate with the state government on ways to earn a reasonable return on investment:

  • Airport advertising
  • Car park
  • Ground transportation
  • Car wash station
  • Commercialisation of staff quarters
  • Shopping facilities
  • Cold store
  • Petrol filling station
  • VIP lounge
  • Participation is needed in the areas of financing, construction, engineering services, facilities management and operation.

The Sokoto State Government is offering a number of incentives to investment in the state. These include: equity participation in viable projects; granting of loan facilities and a tax holiday of at least five years.
