Nigeria's Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N63 billion (US$419 million) for the construction of a second runway at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

According to Daily Trust, the Minister of Information and Communication, Professor Dora Akunyili, said the present runway has outlived its lifespan of twenty years.

Akunyili added that N12.17 billion ($81 million) has also been approved for the rehabilitation of the railway track and signal network of the western line from Jebba to Kano.
