Airline operators halt planned strike

Airline operators have put off a planned strike over terminal charges following an intervention by the government.
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) had threatened to withdraw their aircraft from April 19 over a demand for advance payment of terminal charges by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency(NAMA).
AON shelved the strike after the Minister of Aviation Fidelia Njeze requested NAMA to maintain the status quo of payment pending a resolution of the matter.
NAMA insists the introduction of the controversial Terminal Navigation Charges (TNC) is in line with international standards and in line with a section of NAMA Act empowering the agency to introduce the change.
The principals are due to meet on April 14 to address the issue.
