Global iBurst Nigeria has acquired a license to operate a mobile broadband network in Nigeria.

The license will enable the data service provider to provide internet connectivity, with the first phase of the roll-out planned for Lagos, and Abuja later in the year.

Global iBurst is a subsidiary of Mauritius based POP Broadband Limited. The iBurst technology has successfully been deployed in Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa.

POP Broadband Group chief executive officer Osmo Korri says the company will offer affordable and fast internet service to Nigerians.

‘Getting connected is very simple, there are no complex installations and no contract fees, just buy your modem and pre-paid airtime and enjoy high speed internet. This will be a great advantage to our customers,’ adds Petteri Paasila, the acting chief executive officer of Global iBurst Nigeria and group chief operating officer of PoP Broadband Ltd.

Increasing demand from Nigerian consumers for more ICT services has created the need for more investment in the sector.
