A new downtown development project, dubbed the Abuja Boulevard is expected to boost tourism in the capital. When finished the Boulevard will be similar to Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles.

According to Mallam Ismaila Iro, General Manager of the Abuja Geographical Information Systems, the Boulevard will be a world-class project and developed by a renowned developer. The Boulevard will feature a mixture of residences, hotels, banks and shopping malls. The proposed area is 6.5 km long and 700 metres wide.

The Federal Capital Territory administration will contribute US$500 million to the project and the amount will be recovered through the sale of plots to individuals and organisations.
