Nigeria has scored relatively high in the "Employing Workers" section of a World Bank Doing Business 2008 survey.
Out of a total of 178 countries surveyed, Nigeria is ranked at number 30 in terms of flexible labour regulations. Singapore, the United States and the Marshall Islands are in joint first place with the least rigid labour laws. From sub-Saharan Africa countries Nigeria is placed third behind Gambia and Uganda.
The Rigidity of Employment Index examines the difficulty of hiring a new worker, rigidity of rules on expanding or contracting working hours, the non-salary costs of hiring a worker, and the difficulties and costs involved in dismissing a redundant worker.
