The Nigerian Federal Government will establish an iron and steel company in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The state governor, Alhaji Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi disclosed this while addressing a crowd from Gusau Local Government area of the state during a solidarity rally to the Government House, Gusau at the weekend.
He said the establishment of the company in the state was based on the discovery of large deposits of iron ore, gold, silver and copper in the state as a result of the findings conducted by some foreign experts and geologists from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.
According to him, the identification of these bounties in the state made President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua to direct the federal ministry of industries to explore the possibility of establishing the company in the state, adding that the project, when completed, will lure investors to the state.
On the proposed Cargo International Airport in the state, Shinkafi stated that the project will be carried out in collaboration with some foreign investors that have indicated interest in seeing to the realisation of the project.
He said a Malaysian company will contribute 50% while another company from South Korea will put in 35% and the state government will commit 15%, respectively.
He said with this development, all the cotton ginneries in the state will be empowered to enable them commence mass ginning production for export and that national resources will be properly tapped and utilised.
Similarly, the governor said more housing units will be constructed, especially in the state capital in order to provide sufficient accommodation to its teeming work force in the state in addition to the earlier ones completed.
