The Lagos Sate Government has commenced with streetlight projects along major highways and streets in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Ganiyu Johnson stated this at Maryland, Ikeja, while monitoring ongoing rehabilitation works of streetlight programmes across the state.

According to Johnson, all local government areas of the state are expected to benefit from the ongoing exercise which is going to be gradual and executed in phases.

He further explained that the project is unique and distinct in that the streetlights will have 24 hour electricity supply, even when the national grid is down.

Each of these streetlight installations has its own separate transformer, and a back up generating set to power the streetlight whenever there is a power failure.

According to Johnson, this is a novel idea of the Governor Babatunde Fashola administration which is aimed at ensuring that highways are well illuminated as well as ensure that Lagosians drive in a well secured and safe environment.

The Operation Light up Lagos programme is also meant to complement the massive security network programme of the state government as well as ensure that criminal activities are curtailed if not totally eliminated in the state.
