A N33 billion entertainment centre is going to be built in Akwa Ibom State, situated in south-east Nigeria.
Governor Godswill Akpadio recently disclosed details of the Tropicana Entertainment Centre in a interview with a local newspaper. The centre will comprise of a five star hotel with 250 rooms, a shopping mall, cinema complex and a theme park. The contract for the construction of the facility has been awarded to Silverbird Showtime Ltd.
He said the employees of big companies operating in the state, such as ExxonMobil and Adax need a place to take their children to. Parents that would normally take their children to amusement parks in other parts of the country will now spend their money in the state. He also expects the facility will attract visitors outside of Akwa Ibom State.
The governor added that the state is trying to persuade oil companies to move their headquarters to the state. German construction firm, Julius Berger, recently moved its regional headquarters to Akwa Ibom State.
