Africa’s first DVB-H mobile TV service launched in Nigeria

Details Nigeria, MultiChoice Africa's partner in Nigeria, has launched the continent's first mobile broadcast television service in Abuja – beating South Africa in DVB-H mobile TV roll-out.

The launch is seen as an example of the country's National Broadcasting Commission's dedication to adopting new technology.

Consumers in Abuja will be able to view a selection of DStv channels on Details Nigeria's mobile television network using Digital Video Broadcast – Handheld (DVB-H) technology. While a distribution agreement has already been signed with MTN Nigeria, a number of other mobile operators are expected to carry the service. The launch in Abuja will also be followed by various other cities.

According the analysts more than 150-million people worldwide will use mobile broadcast services by the year 2010. Research shows customers have a real desire for high quality video and audio content on mobile devices.
