A Netherlands-based firm, Dutch Agricultural Development and Trading Compnay (DADTCO), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Taraba State government for the production of high quality rice.

The project is expected to commence in a few months and will transform the state into Nigeria’s largest producer of rice.

Taraba State governor, Alhaji Danbaba Suntai, said that many opportunities exist in the agriculture, solid minerals and tourism sectors but that the state lacks the ability to harness these potentials.

Netherlands’ ambassador, Mr Arie van der Weil, said that Nigeria has the potential to earn around US$1.3-billion from rice production, but that the quality of rice need to improve. According to him the rice produced at the Taraba rice project will be of a very high quality.
