The Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola expressed his determination to transform the state's transportation system in such a way as to make it model for the rest of Africa.
Fashola said over dependence on the road network and the inability of the state to efficiently utilise other means of transport, such as water and rail, are some of the major reasons for the current situation.
The state government plans to implement a three-model transportation system which will consist of interstate road, rail and water networks to improve the movement of people and goods.
According to Fashola, design work has already started on three of the seven waterways the state plans to develop.
