Brewing giant SABMiller has concluded plans to buy a majority stake in a Nigerian brewery.

According to an earlier report by GlobalMalt, a SABMiller subsidiary called Stategic Alliance JV 2 has agreed to buy a majority stake in Pabod Breweries, situated in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

SABMiller is going to acquire the shares of Brewtech, a German brewing consultancy, as well as some shares held in Pabod by the Rivers State Government. The company will also participate in a share capital increase which will seal its majority stake.

Nigeria is Africa's second largest beer market, after South Africa, and is currently dominated by Heineken and Guinness.

Pabod Breweries started in 1982 but later closed due to management problems. In 2007 Brewtech revived the brewery with the help of the Rivers State Government.
