

NSE establishes five new indices

As part of its plans to deepen Nigeria's capital market, the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has introduced five new tradable indices.
Leadership newspaper reports that the new indices are the NSE 30 index, NSE Banking 10 index, NSE Insurance 10 index, NSE Food/Beverage 10 index and the NSE Oil/Gas 5 index.
In her review of the market performance for 2008, director-general of the NSE, Professor Ndi-Okereke Onyiuke stated that the NSE is considering introducing new products such as Exchange Traded Funds, Mortgage-Backed Securities and Asset-Backed Securities.
According to the NSE, the new indices would form the basis for the introduction of new products.
