Ambitious Millennium Tower project to be ready by 2010

Nigeria's federal government is pushing ahead to finish the construction of the Nigeria National Complex in Abuja by 2010, the Daily Independent reports.

The multi-billion-naira complex comprises the Millennium Tower, the Nigerian Cultural Centre and the National Square.

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Adamu Aliero said the project will celebrate African heritage and renaissance.

The Italian Foreign Minister, Franco Firatini, who partnered the minister on an inspection of the site, said the Nigerian Government can count on Italian support for the industrialisation of the country.

An Italian firm, Stalini Nigeria Limited is handling the Millennium Tower project.

According to World Architecture News, the Nigeria National Complex will be developed over an area of 170 000 m2.

The Cultural Centre will include an art museum, a hotel, and a 1 200 seat auditorium. The National Square, which will feature the Millennium Tower, will be linked to the Cultural Centre through an underground commercial arcade.
