Nigeria's Minister for Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Prince Adetokunboh Kayode, is positive about the future of the country's tourism industry. Kayode said that Nigeria's new image as a democratic regime and its reform programmes are already paying off.
The number of international air arrivals to Nigeria increased from an average of 12 000 a year during the 1995 to 2000 period, to 190 000 in 2004. Over the same period, the contribution of hotels and restaurants to the country’s GDP increased from an average of N4.9-billion a year to N46-billion.
Nigeria's federal governement has made tourism one of the six priority sectors for economic growth and development but fresh investment is needed to realise these goals.
The following tourism projects require investors: Tinapa Business, Leisure & Conference Resort, Cross River Tropical Rainforest, Developement of Conference, Meetings & Event management Capability, Farin Ruwa Eco Tourism Project, Olokola Cultural Resort, Museum of Traditional Nigerian Architecture and Ancient City of Kano.
