Out of a total N18.9-billion invested by banks under the Small and Medium Enterprises Equity Investment Scheme (SMEEIS), Nigeria's 19 northern states received only N956.2-million.

The SMEEIS scheme requires banks to invest 10% from their Profit After Tax in small and medium enterprises in order to stimulate the country's economic growth.

From the total 19 northern states, businesses in only 9 of them got funding while the rest of the states received nothing.

The money was allocated as follows:

  • Bauchi - N68.4-million
  • Benue - N30-million
  • Kaduna - N206-million
  • Kano - N343.8-million
  • Kwara - N74-million
  • Nasarawa - N103-million
  • Plateau - N54.2-million
  • Sokoto - N27.6-million
  • Zamfara - N50-million

The SMEEIS Scheme has various conditions under which funding should be provided.
