


The Ministry of Lands and Housing has a statutory responsibility for the formulation and implementation of government policies on lands and housing. It also deals with all maters relating to land and housing in the state.

Housing provision in Kwara State is currently inadequate to house the area's 2.3 million citizens. Efforts by past governments to meet the demand for housing has been largely unsuccessful. Rural-urban migration, due to the deplorable state of infrastructural facilities in rural areas, have added further strain on housing in cities and towns.
Kwara State's present administration has however already constructed 385 housing units while the building of another 250 units is in progress. Work has also recently been completed on drainage facilities, electricity supply and the fencing of the Irewolede housing estate. This development consists of 225 units of detached and semi-detached bungalows. Fifty of these units were sold to the public through the Kwara Investment and Property Development Company, while the other 205 units were sold to civil servants through the open ballot system.
