According to Dino Melaye, Chairman of the House Committee on Information and National Orientation, the importation of analogue electronics by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) was turned down because it was in conflict with the government's digitalisation policy.
The chairman advised those who manufacture or import analogue products to wind up their operations. He also said electronics should be classified as digital or analogue.
Apparently the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) have been notified of the ban. Melaye said no legislation is needed for the ban because it is the government's policy to stop analogue transmission by 2012.
