WHAT IS IGICA?

IGICA is a pan-African conference and trade exhibition that focuses on industry growth, investment and competitiveness in Africa (IGICA) that will take place from June 8 to 10, 2009 in Abuja, Nigeria. It is an annual event which is organised by Knowledge Factory International under the patronage of the Nigerian Government and hosted by the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

The IGICA conference and trade exhibition is actively supported by various national and international organisations and industry associations. IGICA’09 International Conference is a most comprehensive knowledge transfer supported industry growth, investment and competitiveness event.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN AIMS OF THE  IGICA CONFERENCE AND TRADE EXHIBITION?

The underpinning aims of the IGICA’09 conference and trade exhibition is to create networking environment for Africa’s knowledge transfer partnerships and commercialisations of innovation for industrial growth and investment in Africa with Nigeria being the centre of gravity of exemplars for such new partnership development. It is aimed as an international forum for new business and trade partnerships development.

IGICA Objectives

  • Evaluate the case for Africa’s commerce and industrial development and consider lessons from other international and regional experiences;

  • Examine the options and best practice for industrialisation through knowledge transfer;

  • Present the investment environment for enterprise, innovation and industrial development;

  • Examine the potential role of the private sector in accelerating Africa’s industrialisation process and showcase private sector good practices that contribute to partnership and sustainable development;

  • Promote the environment for industry, commerce and R&D organisations to meet potential buyers, suppliers and users of their products, innovative systems and services;

  • Promote partnership between the public and the private sector (public private partnership) that is underpinned by appropriate science, technology and innovation policy;

  • Provide the business match making environment for knowledge transfer and trade exhibition

    IGICA will provide networking opportunities as the bridges between the private sector and governments, between emerging markets and developed markets, between small businesses and international private sector and between universities and industry and between parastatals and the private sector.

    WHAT ARE THIS YEAR'S CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS?

    With more than 2300 delegates for the trade exhibition, 100 speakers from Africa, Europe, USA, Asia and other international countries, 8 plenary roundtable sessions, 10 technical and management sessions in parallel conference strands, various pre-conference events, five post conference capacity development and training sessions, and a number of exciting new features, the event is poised to make a difference and be a must event to attend.
