Nasarawa State is a highly agrarian area with a large percentage of its populace engaged in farming and other agricultural activities. The State lies within the guinea Savannah region of Nigeria which has the most fertile soils in the country. The region also shares in the benefits of the Benue River Valley. Crops that are currently grown in Nasarawa include melons, rice, yams, sugar cane, cassava, groundnut, soya beans, guinea corn, millet, maize, cashew, mangoes and oranges.
The State is one of the most naturally endowed states in Nigeria in terms of the availability of economically and commercially viable natural resources. Indeed each of the thirteen Local Government Areas are uniquely blessed with one form of solid mineral deposit or the other which can be sold in the local and international markets. Minerals found in the region include beryl, sapphire, tourmaline, quartz, zircon, tantalite, iron ore, limestone, talc, clay and salt.
A good network of roads exists within the state linking all rural areas and major towns. The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) also operates train services from Kuru, Gombe and Maiduguri.
Nasarawa State's tourism industry has huge potential for development. The young state is richly endowed with scenic beauty such as the cascading waters of the Farin Ruwa waterfall and the picturesque Eggon Rolling Hills and Caves.
